Lucky Charms: Irish products to brighten your St. Patrick's Day

For Saint Patrick's Day, we will explore a few Irish companies, that are true gems.

We will start with Riley. Now, as a woman, Riley is a company to my heart. The company is established by Fiona and Áine, who found out in 2020 that our menstruation products are riddled with hormone disrupting chemicals. No less than 24 chemicals that disturb the hormonal balance were found in products such as pads and tampons. The two friends decided to join forces and address this problem. Together they founded Riley, a company that makes period products from 100% certified organic cotton. Their entire product line is made in Europe, and by ethical manufacturers who are paying their workers fairly and provide safe working conditions.

Save Energy and Your Wallet This Earth Hour: Visit a Repair Café

Today, Earth Hour takes place. By turning a lot of lights off all around the world, attention is being brought to the environment, light pollution and the use of electricity.

For Earth Hour, it's only fitting I'm not recommending something to purchase, but rather a service to prolong the usage of that which you already own. That service is your local Repair Café.

A Repair Café is a place where volunteers work to fix broken appliances, electronics, computers, clothes, bicycles etc. What is being repaired at your local Repair Café, and when it takes place, can usually be found on their website or in local newspapers. Not all Repair Cafés function in the same way, but most of them ask only for a voluntary donation in exchange for their repairs.

On the website of Repair Café International, you can find a map with Repair Café locations in your area.
