Is There Life After Adobe? Part I: We Start with Xara.
While Adobe is regarded as the "golden" standard for the creative industry, the product does have downsides that are hard to overlook. Among them are end-of-subscription fines (illegal in many European countries), ever-increasing costs, the mandatory subscription model, and privacy concerns.
Over the coming weeks, we will publish a series of posts with mostly European and some FOSS (free and open-source software) alternatives to Adobe products. If they can replace apps like Illustrator and Photoshop depends very much on your workflow and usage of it. I, for one, cancelled my subscription with Adobe and am now making use of the alternatives you'll see posted here in the near future.

Libre Office Calc, the Excel replacement you can count on
One of the most used software programs in the world is Excel by Microsoft. And for good reasons, it's a spreadsheet powerhouse with great features. Unfortunately, it's also subject to the U.S. Cloud Act, which mandates that Microsoft hand over data from European clients to the U.S. government upon request. Because of this, many companies are looking for a new program to make and edit their spreadsheets in.

We're Not Alone! Exploring more European minded websites!
Sticking together is more important than ever before. With the current overseas political situation threatening unity, peace, equality and integrity, we need to stand together and join hands.
As you may have noticed, a bunch of websites and blogs on European products have arisen since the American elections. I think all of us came up with the same idea; let's strengthen Europe. Whether it is economically, socially or otherwise, and create an independence from others who do not have our best interests in mind.

All fun but definitely not a joke; Playmobil
April Fools' Day is around the corner, and it's all about fun. This brand is all fun, but definitely not a joke. Being established in 1974 Playmobil has a solid reputation as a trustworthy toy company. Nearly all children in Europe have played with Playmobil figurines, buildings, vehicles and accessories while growing up.
Playmobil is still being produced in the European Union, with three main factories in Germany, Malta and Spain. Furthermore, the European markets get the first releases of new sets, which will only appear outside of Europe a year later. All in all, this makes Playmobil a perfect example of a great European made product.

Save Energy and Your Wallet This Earth Hour: Visit a Repair Café
Today, Earth Hour takes place. By turning a lot of lights off all around the world, attention is being brought to the environment, light pollution and the use of electricity.
For Earth Hour, it's only fitting I'm not recommending something to purchase, but rather a service to prolong the usage of that which you already own. That service is your local Repair Café.
A Repair Café is a place where volunteers work to fix broken appliances, electronics, computers, clothes, bicycles etc. What is being repaired at your local Repair Café, and when it takes place, can usually be found on their website or in local newspapers. Not all Repair Cafés function in the same way, but most of them ask only for a voluntary donation in exchange for their repairs.
On the website of Repair Café International, you can find a map with Repair Café locations in your area.
